NERC Acts to Reduce IBR Related Risk
As renewable energy becomes increasingly integrated into the U.S. power grid, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is taking proactive measures to address potential reliability challenges arising from the use of inverter-based resources, which include solar and wind generation technologies. These resources are connected at various levels, including transmission and Distributed Energy Resources (DER).
In response to multiple disturbance reports and collaborative efforts by an industry task force, NERC has issued guidance pertaining to performance and interconnection. This guidance is designed to safeguard the reliability of the grid and minimize disruptions as the energy landscape undergoes significant changes.
