FREE RESEARCH PAPER: Which Security Platform Fits the Grid?
Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Cisco and Zscaler Compared: Five Findings from Our Cohort Report on the Large Tech and Networking Platforms
The largest network security vendors are scaling into substations, plants and renewable sites, each from a different direction.
For utility CISOs the question is which one fits their estate; for investors it is what each is worth.
This free 2-page research paper summarizes what we found.
What You’ll Learn
The appliance vendors are closely matched in OT
On the GO-IBR OT and energy scorecard Palo Alto Networks scores 34 of 45, Fortinet 33 and Cisco 32; Zscaler scores 27. Estate shape, not overall rank, decides the right choice.
Each wins a different estate
Palo Alto Networks suits large control centers and consolidated SOCs, Fortinet thousands of field sites, Cisco substations already on its networking, and Zscaler vendor and remote access.
Growth is concentrated in the challengers
Palo Alto Networks grew 24 percent (about 15 to 17 percent organically, a GO-IBR estimate), Zscaler 25 percent and Fortinet guides to about 19 percent, while Cisco’s security revenue grew 2 percent.
Trust is the shared weakness of the appliance model
Cisco has 101 CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities entries, Fortinet 32, Palo Alto Networks 16 and Zscaler none. Under NERC CIP-015-2, firewalls become monitored assets from 2029.
Valuations diverge far more than capabilities
Forward earnings multiples range from 21 times for Cisco to 82 times for Palo Alto Networks, with Fortinet at 48 times and Zscaler at 42 times.
